After the Installation
The installation leaves myDBR with a default administrator and an evaluation license. Do the following before you give users access.
Secure the administrator
- Log in as
dbawith the passworddba. - Create your own administrator account with a strong password, log in with it and disable the default
dbaaccount. Do this whatever authentication method you will use, because the local login stays available for recovery. See Security. - Serve myDBR over HTTPS only.
- Set a unique URL hash seed and the password rules in the Environment settings.
The other recommendations are in Security.
Once the setup is done, the installation pages of myDBR cannot be used to change the configuration unless you are logged in as an administrator, or you are the update user of an automated update.
License
The wizard creates an evaluation license for the host name and the path where you installed myDBR. Request a license for the server in the myDBR shop and paste it into the Licenses page, see myDBR License.
Set up users and reports
- Report Categories: the folders that organize the reports.
- Users and User Groups: who can see which reports. You can also use Single Sign-On or Active Directory.
- Environment settings: formatting, mail, optional modules and other defaults.
- Demo reports: install them to see the features and remove them when you do not need them.
- Install the optional modules for charts, PDF export and Graphviz.
Back up
A myDBR installation is made of three parts. Back up all of them:
| Part | What it holds |
|---|---|
| The reporting database (the schema on PostgreSQL) | Reports, users, access rights and settings. On MySQL and MariaDB include the stored routines (mysqldump --routines). |
The user/ directory | Your customizations, for example defaults.php, styles and extensions |
mydbr_config.php | The database connection |
The reports are stored procedures (functions on PostgreSQL) in the reporting database, so the database backup holds them.
Move myDBR to another server
Update myDBR on the old server, dump the reporting database, copy the user/ directory and complete the setup on the new server. The steps, including how to remove DEFINER clauses from a MySQL dump, are in Troubleshooting. A license is bound to a host name, so request a license for the new host (see myDBR License).
Remove myDBR
- Delete the myDBR directory from the web server.
- Drop the reporting database, or the myDBR objects if you installed them into your data database. The objects are the tables with the prefix
mydbr_and the routinessp_MyDBR_*andsp_DBR*. On PostgreSQL, when myDBR is in its own schema:drop schema mydbr cascade;. - Drop the database account of myDBR if nobody else uses it.
Run the wizard again
To run the installation wizard again, set SETUP_DONE to false in mydbr_config.php. See Manual Installation.
